Are you a professional looking to relocate?  If so, you are in luck – through a recent law, Greece has launched tempting new tax incentives geared towards foreign tax residents who are considering a move to Greece for professional purposes. The tax incentive applies to both individuals in ‘employment positions’ and freelancers.

What Does the Tax Incentive Entail?

Individuals who are successful will:

  • Be exempt from income or solidarity tax on 50% of their source employment or freelancer income in Greece
  • Be exempt from local tax regulations on annual imputed income received from the ownership of real estate or vehicle.

Who Is Eligible?

Individuals who:

  • Are relocating from a European Union or European Economic Area member state.
  • Are planning to remain in Greece for a period of 2 years.
  • Have not been Greek tax residents in the past 5-6 years.
  • Are employees of a Greek enterprise or the Greek branch of an international company.

The tax incentive is set to attract a sizeable number of interested parties, including foreign individuals and former Greek citizens who have emigrated, as well as overseas companies.
